Project Online Scaling to New Heights

| | Leave a comment

Microsoft have just announced a significant update to Project Online, now allowing for up to 30,000 projects to be stored. This is a massive increase from the previous published limit of 5000 projects. Better still, every one of those project can have its own project site. This is clearly a great piece of innovation, and the result of Microsoft investing much of its R&D budget for the product into performance and scalability improvement.

You can find the full detail of this announcement here. Continue reading >>

Technological innovation and the future share many parallels. Both are unpredictable, both are anticipated with enthusiasm by some (and with apprehension by others) and both come around faster than we ever think possible. The cloud and the great spread of connected devices and apps have transformed the way we communicate, collaborate, and accomplish our tasks. Continue reading >>

Let’s take a moment to think about the importance of the Public Sector. The government, its departments, public corporations, municipal councils, agencies and other bodies are vital to the way we live. From healthcare to social housing and education to refuse collection; without proper management and conscious planning, the public sector can very quickly run into problems. And these are issues that could have an effect on thousands – if not millions – of lives. As members of the public, we are highly invested in these organisations, not least because we provide the income necessary for them to function. Continue reading >>

Office 365 Planner – is it for you?

People have developed a whole series of expressions about overkill – a ‘sledgehammer to crack a nut’, a ‘bazooka to kill a fly’, or (as in Russian), ‘to shoot sparrows with a canon’. Overloading and saturating can be just as damaging as starving. This principle can be applied practically anywhere – from growing a plant to filling a vehicle engine.

In the workplace, this principle definitely applies to project management. Continue reading >>

Long term thinking: the flexibility of your investment in Office 365 Project Portfolio Management

| | Leave a comment

Flexibility is an interesting concept. For sports stars, its value might be their most important physical attribute – it’s essential for injury prevention as well as allowing for the highest level of performance. Flexibility is also interesting as a personality trait; i.e. the extent to which a person can cope with changes in circumstances, and consider problems and tasks in original, imaginative ways. This personality trait becomes relevant when stresses and unexpected events occur, requiring a person to change their outlook, attitude, or commitment. To round off, cognitive flexibility is the ability to switch between two concepts as well as simultaneously think about multiple concepts. Continue reading >>

The risk and reward of migrating to Office 365 Project Portfolio Management

If businesses can be said to be made up of processes and practices, then project management is the string that ties these processes together. Even the largest companies have a resource limit, and good project portfolio management (PPM) makes sure resources are focused in the right areas for maximum efficiency.
